If you could vote for US president, who's the one?

Weinberg, 54, isn't attracted by the Republican's position on the economy or the Iraq war. Like many of her compatriots living in Israel , she is voting for the candidate she believes will be a better friend to the Jewish state.

Why so?

It has been suggested that Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's campaign is trying to make GOP Veep candidate Gov. Sarah Palin a scapegoat, by blaming her on the campaign's polling woes and a possible defeat.

Well... If we think about it...

This is the first financial crisis of the global age. We have had some of the advantages of being part of a global economy—we've had lower interest rates for 10 years; we've had 10 years of lower consumer prices in electronics and clothes and everything that comes out of Asia. Now we are having to deal with the challenges: the restructuring of jobs, the energy problems … [Today] you've got this global financial system that is trying to respond to global financial flows that are massive. We've only got national supervision of the system … and that is one of the reasons we've got to reform it.

Water is not the only scarce resource we have to be careful about

In rented offices on a quiet side street in Paris,  not far from the Eiffel Tower, analysts for the International Agency spend long days and nights crunching numbers about oil production and greenhouse gas emissions. They're basically the staid, sober global accountants who watch over the power supply for the 30 rich countries that are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and their many reports are dry and technical.

The need to be part of a community

As technology reshapes our world, as our "friends" become the people we know on Facebook as well as the ones we invite home for dinner, the definition of community is taking on radically new meanings. Nowhere is the concept of community more crucial than in religion. In the West, people traditionally worship together, in a group, in one room; that togetherness has theological import. In Christianity, the sacrament of communion underscores the unity of the faithful; consuming the consecrated bread and wine binds Christians with each other, with the saints in heaven and with the Lord.

And how this may affect us?

There are only two and a half months—76 days, to be precise— between Election Day and your Inauguration, and you will need every one of them to get ready for the world you will inherit. This is not the world you've been discussing on the trail for the last year or more: campaigning and governing could hardly be more different. The former is necessarily done in bold strokes and, to be honest, often approaches caricature. All candidates resist specifying priorities or trade-offs lest they forfeit precious support. You won, but at a price, as some of the things you said were better left unsaid. Even more important, the campaign did not prepare the public for the hard times to come.

Ya know?

it happened to me

As grim financial predictions dominate the news, it seems everyone is scrambling to become an expert on the economy. With the presidential election right around the corner, the pressure to craft a coherent narrative on the country's financial woes is especially high in Washington.

Geopolitics is a mess, isn't?

While American politicians debate who's a maverick willing to take on the establishment, Iraq's Mithal al-Alusi meets the criteria and pays the price. In the latest in a series of battles with what he calls the "fascist" religious parties running the government, Alusi was banned from parliament for making his third trip to Israel—or, the "Zionist entity" as it's known in official Iraqi correspondence. He is not allowed to leave Iraq, could face prosecution and says he is hearing of threats on his life.

Reaching the end of the line...

The decision by  Barack Obama to return to Hawaii to visit his ailing grandmother might not be the last surprise of the last fortnight of this campaign. Two weeks is an eternity in presidential  politics , which means we're likely to have one more twist before this ends—though with early voting, more than a quarter of the electorate now votes before Election Day.

Absolutly"

Is Palin making plans for 2012?

I ask because she's contradicted John McCain on a number of subjects in recent weeks--and every contradiction seems calibrated to preserve (or even enhance) her standing with the Republican base should the Arizona senator lose on Nov. 4.

Smart girl, Ya know?

Race to the finish line

Gov. Sarah Palin's future is secure. She's a genuine grass-roots sensation and will remain one. Too bad that John McCain, the man who made her a star, isn't prospering with her. In fact, despite her nice turn on "Saturday Night Live," she has turned toxic for the McCain camp.

Who are the people satisfied with Bush's Adm?

Who are these people? One in 10 Americans can't be repo men or Bush relatives. Satisfied? Now? Nobody's that Republican. Do these 10 percenters live in caves without TV, magazines, newspapers and the Internet—yet somehow still have a phone so that pollsters can reach them? And if you lived in a cave without HBO, would you really be "satisfied"?

Nope, Ya know?

When words can kill

Choi Jin Sil had a lot to live for. She was one of  South Korea's hottest movie stars, and the mother of two young children. But the tides of public opinion can turn quickly and mercilessly—especially in cyberspace. In late September, an employee at a  Seoul securities house began posting rumors about Choi in an online chat room. She accused Choi of being a ruthless loan shark responsible for the  suicide of a down-on-his-luck actor who had amassed more than $2 million in debts. Within days, the rumors had spread to hundreds of thousands of chat-room users who posted vicious attacks on Choi's morals and character. Although the rumors were completely fabricated, the chat-room condemnation was more than Choi could take. "I am lonely and I am ostracized," she wrote in her suicide note found on Oct. 2. "I cannot even breathe."

It's very sad, Ya know?

Ahhhh... Vale do Silicone né?

As if waking from a dream,  Silicon Valley has suddenly realized that the collapsing economy means trouble for tech companies, too. Especially at risk are the new  startups created in the wake of the last dotcom crash in 2001.

What do you think?

Truth, they say, is the first casualty of war. But it hasn't even made it onto the battlefield of economics in this presidential election. Asked about how the global meltdown will change their priorities, the candidates demur; asked how they will call on the American people to sacrifice, they dodge.

Turn to your own mind a try to undertand why does your mother chose as awkward as your name? I mean, despite the cultural influence which affects a certain society, why the weirdest names give its possessor an advantage in life?

who never committed a mistake throw the first stone

She unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

who are we talking about?

I think she's both smart and resilient and optimistic and courageous and all those things. ... Her confident and completely unfazed response to being criticized is great because she didn't run from the stage crying. She sort of shrugged it off and when on to the next event, in a way that didn't seem callous, and it didn't seem unfeminine, and it didn't seem like she was acting like a guy, it was just her way.

The man surely is gonna win.

Barack Obama is leading the polls at home, but he's downright beloved abroad, where he's seen as a Kennedyesque star who could quickly heal the damage America's done to its image with Iraq, Guantánamo, and other missteps.

Discoursive approach

Ahhh God wishes that the english courses in Natal realise that major role the discourse play in learning a language rather than grammar and words. Will this dream be fulfilled one day?

I don't know but, I'm doing my part. Teaching discourse.

Isn't true?

It is true that living in the past can be bad for the mind and the soul, preventing us from engaging in the battles and causes of our own time. But when we are at our best, history and heroes enable us to look ahead, not backward.

I vote for Palin!

Palin is on the ticket because she connects with everyday Americans. It is not shocking to learn that politics played a big role in the making of a presidential team (ticket-balancing to attract different constituencies has been with us at least since Andrew Jackson ran with John C. Calhoun, a man he later said he would like to kill).

What do you know about Sarah Palin?

Wasilla Bible Church, however, is having an extraordinary week. On Sunday, its senior pastor Larry Kroons confirmed that Senator John McCain's vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin, and her family, regularly attend services there, and have done so for the last six years or so. "They attend here as Sarah and Todd in the presence of God, honoring God as God," he said before he began his sermon.
